I’m Dan. This page tells you who I am, how I work, how I’m paid and how you can check my credentials yourself. That way you can decide whether I’m the right planner for you before we ever meet.I chose a career in insurance and estate planning when I was 25, and I entered the financial planning industry in Alberta in 1983. From the start, my work has been about the long term: helping successful families and small business owners protect what they’ve built and pass it on the way they want.
In 1999 I moved to the West Coast. I kept serving my Alberta clients, and many of those relationships continue today. Over four decades I’ve worked with families, business owners and the professionals who advise them, including accountants, lawyers and other advisors who bring me in on estate and insurance planning.
As my practice grew, so did the range of problems I help solve. Mortgage protection became a major part of my work. I help homeowners own coverage that stays with them instead of relying on their lender’s insurance, and I help people who’ve been declined elsewhere explore their options.
More recently I became a Smith Manoeuvre Certified Professional™. That means I can help homeowners decide whether converting their mortgage into a tax-deductible investment loan suits them. The strategy involves borrowing to invest, so it carries risk and isn’t right for everyone.
Today I work from my office at Uptown in Saanich, a few minutes from downtown Victoria, with clients across Vancouver Island and British Columbia. What drives me is helping clients achieve financial outcomes they once thought impossible. Over the years I’ve seen where the usual advice falls short. People are told to deal with one thing at a time: pay off the mortgage, then invest, then think about the estate. That approach can cost them years of growth and tax advantages.
That’s why every plan I build looks at the whole picture, so your retirement, taxes, insurance and estate work together. It’s also why my approach has always been “We guide, you decide.” My job is to explain your options clearly and honestly. Every decision is yours.| Credential | What it means | How to verify it |
